The Chargers are young and in-experienced. Their QB Phillip Rivers is average at best and much to cocky for how he actually performs. The coach doesn't use Ladanian Tomlinson enough. Their WR core is lacking (although they showed some promise against Indy last week). Norv Turner is not a great coach. The Pats have an insane passing game and even their run game has looked good the last few weeks.

I will say there are TWO factors that could prove to get the Chargers an upset win:

1. The Pats defense is old and tired, so they can give up a lot of points.

2. The Dynamic Duo for the Chargers: CB - Cromartie and KR - Sproules. These 2 guys are game changers and if Cromartie can register an INT and if Sproules can get a long return, the Chargers could pull it off.

My Call though: Pats 35, Chargers 17

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now game 2, The New York Giants AT Green Bay at 6:30pm

The Packers seem to be a team of destiny and the Giants historically have been a team of playoff futility. However, this season the Giants are doing what they need to do to move through the playoffs. I still think the Pack has this one though because they have been DOMINATING their opponents while the Giants beat a weak Tampa team and just squeaked one out over the struggling Cowboys.

Eli Manning is young and unproven, Toomer has a case of the drops, Jacobs likes to fumble, Coughlin's eyes are too close together ;) It all adds up to trouble. The packers have Ryan Grant on fire, Jennings, Driver, Jones, Martin, & Franks are rollin along with Favre at the helm. And their defense is merciless with Aaron Kampman, Nick Barnett, Al Harris, Atari Bigby, & AJ Hawk. Not to mention the sub zero temps in Green Bay.

This one is an easy call:
Packers 31, Giants 14

Stay tuned for the Superbowl Predictions!

It's been WAY too long!!!!

Well, sorry to say that for the past 6 months my blogging got lost in the shuffle known as LIFE.

Between work, family functions, our son's first Christmas that he actually understands, and a bout with Cam in the hospital; blogging had kind of slipped my mind.

So it's time to get back to business :)

Cameron's 15 Month Checkup

Well, we took our baby boy to the Doc's yesterday for his 15 month check-up. Ever ACTUALLY MADE IT THERE?? Do yah remember that feeling?? Well, for quite a few years now, since I became a hard core NFL fan, I've wanted to make it to Canton, Ohio to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I never made it during college, then work kept me too busy right out of college, then I got married, then we had our son and I all but thought the day would never come to see the Temple of the Football Gods!!! Until this past Saturday!!!!!!! My wife Sandra and son Cameron arranged a day trip to Canton for me for father's day. I know it's only my 2nd father's day, but I'm pretty sure it's the best father's day gift ever!!! We got up at 4am, drove to the airport (half hour), flew to Cleveland (1hr), rented a car and drove to Canton (1hr), and visited the Hall of Fame. We then surprisingly got through the Hall in 2.5 hours (a little smaller than what one may imagine the Temple of the Football Gods to be) and drove back up to Cleveland (1hr), had dinner at Max and Erma's (fabulous Soft Pretzels with Con Queso Dip & a Cheeseburger), drove back to the airport, flew back to Philly (1hr), and drove home (half hour). Cameron was a trooper for this crazy day, he was an angel all the way to Canton, then he hollered of and on throughout the Hall of Fame (some folks were convinced he was cheering!), then he slept back to Cleveland, entertained other diners at Max and Erma's and wailed the whole flight back to Philly, capping the day off by sleeping the whole drive home. Despite the craziness it was one of the best days of my life as I got to visit my Temple of my favorite sport with the two people in the world who mean the most to me. Here's a boatload of pictures from our FANTASTIC DAY!!! Enjoy!!!

Note: Some of the most notable busts (statues) of Hall of Famers appear on the right side of my blog (all of the Eagles busts appear at the top of my blog) and a few picts have been incorporated into my new blog header.

SANDRA AND CAM ON THE PLANE
<img style="display:block; Nicholson yesterday after various off-field problems.

ESPN.Com article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2877610

This is finally a great move on the part of the organization. Their bright orange uniforms were beginning to be related to the bright orange jumpsuits worn in prison. This organization has been getting it's name dragged through the mud over the past year due to players like, A.J. Nicholson, Chris Henry, Odell Thurman, and several others. It was about time they put their foot down.

Now I must admit, A.J. wasn't really a high profile player like Henry and Thurman, so this wasn't as "tough" of a move as some might think, but it's a start. They apparantly have adopted a "zero tolerance" policy so we'll have to see what happens the next time a "big name" Bengal gets in trouble with the law.

But as for now, Kudos to Marvin Lewis, he had to start somewhere.

Fantasy football 2007 Top 50 Players (Version 1)

This top 50 is an average of ESPN's ranking, Fox's ranking, and My Rank Opinion. The above ground pool had a latching gate. Police said several pool chemicals were nearby at the time of the incident, as if the pool was being reopened for the summer. A sliding glass door led from the house to the backyard.

This is such a shame and should serve as a reminder to all of us out there how precious our children are and how we should take no chances when it comes to ensuring their safety.

So please, all parents out there remember how blessed we all are to have our children and take every precaution possible to keep them safe. Summer and pool season is approaching, if your kids can't swim, get them lessons, if they're too young, get an alarm for your pool (senses when the water is disturbed and puts out an extremely high pitched squeal), make sure your pool is fenced in and locked, and by all means, please make sure you have an eye on the kids all the times. It only takes a few seconds for something horribly tragic to happen.

My condolences and prayers go out for this family and their son.

Commissioner Goodell Starting Off On The Right Foot....

I have to say that since new NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has taken over, he is doing an EXCELLENT job. Especially with the new conduct policies. Players like Pacman Jones and Chris Henry needed much more than the typical "slap on the wrist", and Goodell made sure they got it.

By suspending Pacman for 16 games (with a possibility of returning after 10 based on the Vegas case outcome & his behavior) and Henry for 8 games, he has set a precedent that it is a privilege to be in the NFL not a right just because you are an amazing athlete. This should help cut down on the "thug" element in the NFL, thus allowing all of the fans out there to enjoy the game and their teams without the distractions of this arrest and that arrest. It will also help add to the sport's fanbase by cleaning up the players in the game.

Although he's done a great job so far, Goodell has a long tough road ahead of him and as long as he has the guts to do what needs to be done, the NFL has a great future ahead. The latest challenges he has to deal with are Joey Porter (jumped another player in Vegas with a "posse"), Tank Johnson (drugs and weapons charges), Ricky Williams (pot for the umteenth time), and Michael Vick (dogfighting charges pending).

Tank Johnson's case should be an easy one, at least a one year suspension is in order as he was convicted, then violated parole, then he was imprisoned for a few months.

Ricky William's case should come down to a year or more suspension or a ban for life considering he's already had 3 chances with the drugs and can't seem to straighten out.

Joey Porter has been an amazing player in his career which "supposedly" should make the decision tougher. I believe the decision should have NOTHING to do with their skill, stats, or icon status. He's a loud mouth thug who finally stepped in enough crap to be punished and he should get at least a 4 game suspension.

The one the commish will need the most "guts" to handle is Michael Vick, he says he rented a house to a cousin and had "no idea" the cousin was holding dog fights, he even said he had "never visited the property" since buying it for his cousin. Well several witnesses have seen him at the dog fights, and numerous shop owners have sold him supplies for the dogs. So not only is he guilty, he's also a liar, that and the Atlanta P.D. and team owner helped cover up his airport weed incident this past winter, so the time has come to slap one of the most overrated, over hyped thugs in the league with a big penalty. Vick needs to be suspended for AT LEAST 8 games as dogfighting is one of the cruelest crimes around, short of murder considering most losing dogs die in dog fights. And it's not like the dogs have a choice in the matter. So I say Goodell needs to throw the book at Vick. And if he does, he will have forever earned my respect as the man who is straightening out the NFL, no matter who needs to be suspended to do it.

Here's to Roger Goodell and doing the right thing!!!!

By the way, I had to post this picture I saw on ProFootballTalk.com as it is hilarious and fitting to the Vick story:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PC2I-VAjCfQ/RkxDVMQH5wI/AAAAAAAAABU/lbfwASqQc08/s320/VicksFootballCamps.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5065497712230131458" />

Back from Vacation......

The family and I have just returned from a week-long vacation in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic).
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - America's national emblem is nesting in Philadelphia for the first time in more than 200 years but it may be on a collision course with developers.

A pair of bald eagles, a species that has recovered from the brink of extinction in the last 40 years, has built a nest in a former Navy yard on the south side of Philadelphia, the sixth-largest U.S. city and where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written.

"They have eggs in the nest and you can tell they are incubating by their behavior," said Doug Gross, an endangered bird specialist for the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

The birds' survival may be threatened by plans for a $150 million produce market and a new marine terminal in the Navy yard, and by an expected move to lessen the official protection of the eagles because of their strong rebound.

The state agency checked official records of breeding bald eagles in Philadelphia and was unable to find any over the last two centuries, said Jerry Feaser, a spokesman.

The bald eagle, depicted on the Great Seal of the United States, was almost wiped out by the pesticide DDT and by habitat loss in the mid-20th Century but has come back thanks to federal protections and improved water quality.

The U.S. population has grown to about 7,000 pairs from a low of 487 in 1963, the service says. In Pennsylvania, there were 117 nesting pairs in 2006, up from two or three in the early 1970s, Gross said.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced it will decide whether to remove the bald eagle from the federal list of threatened and endangered species by June 29.

The appearance of breeding bald eagles in the midst of an urban area like Philadelphia is an exciting development and particularly welcome in a city so important to early U.S. history, Gross said.

"This national symbol is now nesting in what used to be the capital of the United States," Gross said.

FINALLY.......The Birds Get a Playmaking Linebacker!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PC2I-VAjCfQ/RgjyNlViOSI/AAAAAAAAAAU/mL4hud4SwaU/s200/takeo_profile.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5046549697643297058" />
On Monday night, the 26th of March, the Eagles finally pulled the trigger to get a play making Linebacker in this city. They pulled of a deal with the Buffalo Bills to aqcuire linebacker Takeo Spikes & backup QB Kelly Holcomb (I still would have liked to see Garcia stay. In exchange we sent them defensive tackle Darwin Walker. This was a great move considering our last two 1st Round draft picks have been DTs (Patterson & Bunkley) and we recently signed standout DT Monte Reagor. This made Walker expendable and drastically improves our linebacker corps since Takeo can play ALL THREE LB positions. He will more than likely replace Dahani Jones at strong-side linebacker. It's nice to finally see the Eagles make moves in the offseason (other than the draft) to fill what I (and most other fans) saw as their primary needs.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PC2I-VAjCfQ/RgjyvlViOUI/AAAAAAAAAAk/_7QWtt8moTk/s320/Takeo_Spikes.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5046550281758849346" />

"A nine-year veteran, Spikes has played in 126 games. Enjoy!

By Matt Williamson
Scouts Inc.

Over the next month, "SportsCenter" will put every NFL team "On The Clock." Scouts Inc. will break down each team and look at what questions still need answering. The Eagles are up now.
Many counted the Eagles out after Donovan McNabb's injury, but Philadelphia finished the season with five straight victories, won its wild-card game, then lost a tight divisional playoff game in New Orleans. The Eagles are in fine position to contend in the NFC next year and should be favorites in the competitive NFC East. They need McNabb to return to health in a timely manner, but they have an excellent quarterback, running back and offensive line. This team will score points. The Eagles are also solid on special teams, but they do have some work to do to bring their defense back to the level the Eagles' fans are accustomed to seeing. Philadelphia is a very strong franchise.
Key additions

On defense, the Eagles re-signed DE Juqua Thomas and CB William James. Both are important depth players, and their familiarity with the defense has obvious value. More needs to be done on this side of the ball, but it made a lot of sense to bring these two players back. Offensively, the Eagles have signed WRs Kevin Curtis and Bethel Johnson. Johnson is a blazer with natural ability but hasn't been able to produce consistently at this level; he caught only nine passes last year. He cannot be counted on to be a major contributor but might offer some return ability. Curtis, on the other hand, is entering the prime of his career and could put up big numbers in this pass-happy system. Re-signing Correll Buckhalter was important. He gives the Eagles a physical runner to lighten the load on Brian Westbrook.
Key losses

In McNabb's absence, QB Jeff Garcia filled in very well. He kept Philadelphia's explosive offense rolling and managed the West Coast attack efficiently. He is now in Tampa Bay and, depending on McNabb's early-season health, could be a significant loss -- although Westbrook deserves at least as much credit as Garcia for taking over the offense. The Eagles generally don't spend a lot of their resources on the wide receiver position, which led to WR Donte' Stallworth leaving town for New England. Stallworth was replaced by Curtis, which is an adequate trade-off. Philadelphia's secondary also took a hit with the defections of former starting SS Michael Lewis and backup CB Roderick Hood. Both players are replaceable and Lewis began to fall out of favor, but both played prominent roles.
Remaining questions

When will McNabb return, and how effective will he be by the opener? Also, can the star quarterback stay healthy for an entire season? The Eagles have some holes, but overall, are in awfully good shape for this time of year. On offense, Buckhalter was re-signed, but with his injury history, the Eagles might be wise to add one more big back in the draft. They also could still be in the market for another receiver and a developmental quarterback. On defense, they need to find a starting linebacker and possibly a second linebacker to develop. They also could use secondary depth and possibly another defensive end -- if they can find the right guy. This defense needs one more playmaker, for sure.

NFL Personal Conduct Rules Not Enforced to the Fullest

I'm just curious here, but today I have read the NFL's personal conduct policy (link to the policy in this post) and I don't believe the NFL really uses it the way they should.

Here's the section I'm referring to:

"Any Covered Person convicted of or admitting to a criminal violation (including a plea to a lesser included offense; a plea of nolo contendere or no contest; or the acceptance of a diversionary program, deferred adjudication, disposition of supervision, or similar arrangement) will be subject to discipline as determined by the Commissioner. Such discipline may include a fine, suspension without pay and/or banishment from the League. Any Covered Person convicted of or admitting to a second criminal violation will be suspended without pay or banished for a period of time to be determined by the Commissioner."

I find it funny, it's written in black and white that any guys convicted of crimes can be fined, suspended, or BANNED from the League by the Commish, yet, in my opinion, the NFLs punishments never seem to fit the crimes. All these players convicted on drug charges or assault charges and the such, and they NEVER get banned from the league.

If the average Joe were convicted of the above crimes, they would most definitly be fired. I know I would. What makes these NFL athletes (not to mention most other sports and celebrities) so special that they don't lose their jobs for not abiding to the law?? It's completely prejudiced and eats at my crawl everytime I see another criminal, I'm sorry, player allowed back to the game after breaking the law. These people aren't Gods, they're people who get an ungodly amount of money to play games and as far as the law and careers are concerned they should be treated the same way as the rest of us.

If they'd lose their careers over these indiscretions (as they're referred to), the league would be a much cleaner respectable league. The killer is that the Commish has the power to ban them but doesn't take advantage. This needs to change or the NFL is going to fill up with classless criminal thugs and will lose its appeal to the nation.

Please Commish, fix the league I love!!!!
